Hello artists and lovers of art, my name is Sibella and this is my first blog post with The Gallery Swarm Blog.
First, I just wanted to tell you a little bit about myself and then more about my current project.
I was born and raised in Bosnia, a small country in south-eastern Europe, where I received my BA in art and education. I’ve been an artist since childhood days, with quite a long break during the war years (in Bosnia) and then refugee life in Germany and the United States. Finally after settling in Indiana, I started painting again in 2006. I put a lot of time and effort into studying soft pastels which are one my favorite mediums, but I love to paint in pretty much any medium depending of what kind of ideas develop in my mind. I am also a lover of stained glass, pottery, jewelry making. I write poetry and prose, I love people of different cultures, I am also a great cook and a baker and I try to express all who I am through my art.
My “Love One Another” project came to me as an idea to try improving my portrait skills in soft pastel and devoting daily time to painting. In our busy lives it’s really hard to find the time to paint every day, especially if you also have a family, children and a day time job. So, I set a goal for myself to paint one portrait per week for one year.
Being a lover of different world cultures, and our present time being a time where racism, nationalism and other –isms are surely on the rise, I wanted with my portraits to show and teach love and appreciation for all human beings. I think hatred develops from the fear of unknown and my goal is to erase hatred and bring forth Love. So, my ever present inspiration and ultimate goal is to share – Love. Love is the only reality. When we love, we give of ourselves unselfishly and unconditionally and we are making this world a better place for us and those to come.
