 Opera Gallery Hong Kong is thrilled to announce its Autumn exhibition showcasing celebrated Chinese abstract painter Liu Jiu Tong alongside a collection of figurative sculptures by American artist Richard MacDonald. Interplaying the abstract and the figurative, Liu Jiu Tong’s unrestrained landscapes are inspired by renowned Chinese poets of the Warring States and Tang Dynasty. Eluding to form, Liu expresses a lyricism swathed in tenacious layers of paint, vigorously applied and condensed onto canvas like a fleeting moment trapped between open fingers. Born in 1977 in Suide, a province of northern China, Liu graduated from the Art Institute of Xi’an and continued his studies in Beijing. Skobeev Vitaly Skobeev Vitaly was born in 1968 in Kazan in the family of the artist. In 1987 he graduated from the Kazan Art School. After serving in the Army (1990) he continued his studies in the workshop of his father, National Artist of Russia, V.N. Skobeev. He held more than 20 exhibitions from 1991 to 2015, more of them are personal. His works are in the State museums and private collections in Russia. David Hockney, OM CH RA (born 9 July 1937) is an English painter, draughtsman, printmaker, stage designer and photographer. Born in Bradford, England, in 1937, David Hockney attended art school in London before moving to Los Angeles in the 1960s. There, he painted his famous swimming pool paintings. In the 1970s, Hockney began working in photography, creating photo collages he called joiners. He continues to create and exhibit art, and in 2011 he was voted the most influential British artist of the 20th century.

 De Buck Gallery announced United States representation of the Estate of Bernard Aubertin, the French avant-garde artist who is best known for his monochromatic red nail paintings and for his association with the global ZERO movement. Following a visit to the studio of Yves Klein in 1957, Bernard Aubertin was inspired to follow in Klein’s footsteps and work within the field of monochromy, a style he adamantly adhered to throughout his career, choosing a vibrant red hue just as Klein famously worked in blue. Aubertin’s first monochrome works were created in 1958 and featured canvases covered in materials such as nails, bolts, and screws all painted in red. By 1961, he officially joined the ZERO group, seeking to create a detached, expressionless approach to art making. Later in his career, his practice evolved to incorporate performance, and he became known for setting fire to his own work and exhibiting the remains. The Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston (ICA) celebrates its first decade of collecting and the tenth anniversary in its Diller Scofidio + Renfro-designed facility with the largest and most ambitious presentation of its collection to date. First Light: A Decade of Collecting at the ICA features over 100 works by seminal artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, including Louise Bourgeois, Nick Cave, Paul Chan, Marlene Dumas, Eva Hesse, Cindy Sherman, Kara Walker, and Andy Warhol. Occupying the entirety of the museum’s east galleries, First Light combines audience favorites with new acquisitions, many on view at the ICA for the first time. Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors, the first institutional survey exhibition to explore the evolution of the celebrated Japanese artist’s immersive infinity rooms, will embark on the most significant North American tour of her work in nearly two decades. Following its debut at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden on Feb. 23, 2017, which is the organizing institution, Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors will travel to four major museums in the United States and Canada, including the Seattle Art Museum (June 30–Sept. 10, 2017), The Broad in Los Angeles (October 2017–January 2018), the Art Gallery of Ontario (March—May 2018), and the Cleveland Museum of Art (July–October 2018).
